An Introduction to Delay Differential Equations with Applications to the Life Sciences

 

Paulos wrote that you can learn a lot from reading the first few chapters of a diversity of Mathematics books. I have a habit of reading way beyond my capacity. I hope that Paulos observation is true and I can start to accumulate knowledge and develop deeper insights into the connections between various areas.

This preamble is most relevant for this book. I read the first few chapters in depth but then was more superficial for the rest of the book.  The role of delay differential equations, the different types (e.g. discrete delay, disstibuted delay); the way oscillatory solutions emerge; the linear stability analysis, the continuous solutions but jump discontinuous derivatives; the techniques for solution and the application were presented in a way that I gained insight and was inspired to learn more.
