In the Background

I have been playing (the right term) with some of the image processing capabilities of  Mathematica. I took pairs of images and blended them manually after dealing with sizes. The base image was partitioned, the individual elements then served as pixels for a lower resolution image and then the partitioned transformed image was reassembled.

Some results are presented below
