Elliptic Tales

This book is well written and illustrated. It is a ‘tale well told’. The authors systematically expain the BSD conjecture and along the way take instructive diversions to enrich the understanding of the reader.
The first third to half explored the concept of degree. The authors introduce group theory and explain how its helps in the ultimate aim.

I regard this as a first read and took the author’s advice to look at the principle and not get lost in the detail. I look forward to more time in the future to think about the multiple threads that were woven together in the book. Many are still loose and ragged in my head. However, the tale is coherent. I am interested in looking at the previous book Fearless Symmetry.
