From Sundials to Atomic Clocks: Understanding Time and Frequency, Second Revised Edition
This book is wonderful. It covers time from multiple perspectives with instructive cartoon illustrations. Along the way, history, philosophy and a journey from classical to modern physics. Newtonian absolute time and space, thermodynamics (entropy and the arrow of time), James Clerk Maxwell on distribution of velocities in gases and predicting electromagnetic waves, Einstein’s special and general relativity, quantum mechanisms and even Godel’s incompleteness all appear and are weaved into the author’s wonderful story of time.
The evolution of our understanding of time, the measurement of time and the importance of time in advancement of our understanding of the world are explored.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope you do to.
